A solo break in jazz occurs when the rhythm section (piano, bass, drums) stops playing behind a soloist for a brief period, usually two or four bars leading into the soloist's first improvised solo chorus (at which point the rhythm section resumes playing). 8. 2.) There is more science to melody and chords than there is to rhythm. Sure there are things like time signatures, drum patterns, etc. And drums aren't an easy instrument to master either, certain bands would be nothing without their respective drummers (John Bonham, Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart, etc.).
